Week 6 Water

How can we ensure a clean and public water supply? What are the challenges? Listen here.
(no transcript sorry!!) Go to this link and perhaps look at the pictures or at least read the blurb discussing them. Think about Willis Elkins' words and connect them to the podcast.
A. What's so important about "we" and "public" bolded above? Discuss something that struck you from the podcas.

B. What's in your water? Find out from the Environmental Working Group (fill in zip code on right side).  This is NOT meant to scare you. If you read the chapter in your text first, you will get a sense of how water gets polluted. These conditions can change -- for better or for worse. We can insist they change for the better.

C. Do you drink bottled water because you think it's more safe or because it's convenient? Check out the Story of Stuff on bottled water and look at this website for the book Bottlemania. If you've watched Flow already, you'll know a lot about bottled water already.  What are the consequences of convenience? Or, write about how your views of bottled water might have changed.

For full credit make some reference to A, B and C.

Optional: Calculate your water footprint on this Nat Geo site. Tell us what you learned.

Loved all of your comments on the Sylvia Earle blog assignment from last week!
